Friends, we have all enjoyed our experience of coming together as an international community at this Congress. It is important that we do gather from time to time and it is always a source of great energy and joy.
I thank you for your kind invitation and welcome. It is an honor and privilege to be asked to speak at this important gathering. I hope I can contribute something worthwhile. As I understand it, my brief today is give some account of how the community of schools which form Edmund Rice Education Australia, have responded to some major challenges that Pope Francis has placed before Catholic education.
We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples of Australia as the traditional owners and custodians of the land of our schools. We are inspired and nurtured by their wisdom, spirituality and experience. We commit ourselves to actively work alongside them for reconciliation and justice. We pay our respects to the Elders; past, present and future. As we take our next step we remember the first footsteps taken on this sacred land.
