The structure of Edmund Rice Education Australia comprises a Council, with responsibility for governance, a Board, with responsibility for management and administration, and an Executive team overseeing operations on a daily basis.

 

COUNCIL

Brother Paul Oakley cfc, President

Paul has been a teacher at and headmaster of several secondary schools in the Edmund Rice tradition. For a number of years he was a member of the former Leadership Team of St Mary’s Province of the Christian Brothers, with particular responsibility for schools in NSW, the ACT and Papua New Guinea.  He has been a member of the Christian Brothers National Planning Committee for School Governance.


Graham Goerke, Deputy President

Graham is a partner of Jackson McDonald, Lawyers, Perth, and a former Board Chair of Aquinas College, Perth


Sister Maryanne Confoy rsc

Maryanne is Professor of Pastoral Theology at Jesuit Theological College, Melbourne, Principal of the Institute of Christian Spirituality and Pastoral Formation in Melbourne and Visiting Professor at Boston College.


Brother Ted Magee cfc

Ted has been a teacher at and headmaster of several secondary schools in the Edmund Rice tradition.  For a number of years he was a member of the former Leadership Team of St Francis Xavier Province of the Christian Brothers in Queensland. He has been a member of the Christian Brothers National Planning Committee for School Governance.

Des Powell, Chair
Des is currently Deputy Chair National Transport Commission, Deputy Chair Port of Melbourne Corporation, Director Goulburn-Murray Water Authority, Chair National Marine Safety Committee Inc, was a member of the National Planning Committee for Schools Governance and a former Board Chair of St Kevin’s College Toorak.

Dr Sue McGinty, Deputy Chair
Sue is currently Associate Professor and Associate Dean Research in the Faculty of Arts, Education and Social Sciences at James Cook University, a member of Queensland Catholic Education Commission, Chair of the Townsville Diocesan Education Council and inaugural Chair of Ignatius Park College Board  Townsville (2001-2004).

Fr Chris Gleeson sj
Chris is currently Director Faber Centre of Ignatian Spirituality, Banyo and Member of The Loyola Institute Mission Formation Team North Sydney, former Chair of ahisa and Head of St Ignatius College, Riverview.

Tony Lee
Tony is currently Chair of Magabala Books Aboriginal Corporation and Kimberley tafe Aboriginal Education & Training Committee, a member of Kimberley tafe Governing Council and Wirriya Liyan Indigenous Counselling Course Advisory Committee and founding Chair Clontarf Aboriginal College Perth.

Michelle Narracott
Michelle is a corporate governance and risk management professional and legal practitioner, with some 17 years experience with boards, audit committees, and executive management across the public, corporate and not-for-profit sectors, formerly a director of St Edmunds College, Canberra

John Henry has been Governance Development Coordinator & Workplace Risk Manager of the former St Mary’s Province of the Christian Brothers, a member of National Planning Committee for Schools Governance and former Principal St Patrick’s College Goulburn, Xavier High School Albury and St Dominic’s College Penrith.

Bill has been Executive Officer of the National Planning Committee for Schools Governance, Chair of St Patrick’s Province Foundation of the Brothers and former Head St Kevin’s College Toorak, St Patrick’s College Launceston and St Patrick’s College Ballarat.

Alan is former Managing Director and Developer of Norwest Business Park, Sydney, member of Parramatta Diocesan Schools Council & Diocesan Property Council, University of Western Sydney Strategy and Resources Committee, Director and former Chair University of Western Sydney Foundation Limited and former Chair of St Gabriel’s School, Castle Hill.

Brother Bernard Gartland cfc
Bernie has been a teacher and administrator in Edmund Rice primary and secondary schools throughout NSW and the ACT. He was a member of the Leadership Team of the former St Mary’s Province and remains the President of AITECE an organisation which encourages teachers to offer catholic education in China.

EXECUTIVE TEAM

Dr Wayne Tinsey, Executive Director:

Wayne has worked in Catholic education in New South Wales, Queensland, and Western Australia for more than 25 years. He has simultaneously held the positions of Director of the Catholic Institute of Western Australia, Director of the Edmund Rice Centre for Social Justice, Head of the School of Religious Education, as well as Professor and Assistant Dean of Education at the University of Notre Dame in Fremantle. He remains an Adjunct Professor of Education at Notre Dame.  In 2004 Wayne became Director of Schools for the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle, a position he held before joining Edmund Rice Education Australia. In 2007 Wayne was awarded the Br John Taylor Excellence in Education Award for his leadership and management of 57 primary and secondary schools, with over 19,000 students, in the Hunter and Manning regions. Wayne holds the qualifications of a Doctor of Education, Master of Education, Master of Arts (Theology), Graduate Diploma in Religious Education, Bachelor of Education and Diploma of Teaching.

Robert White, Director of Identity:

Bob has been Headmaster of Aquinas College in Perth since 2000, having spent 25 years in senior leadership roles in Catholic education as Headmaster in 5 different schools. He was Chair of the Association of Heads of Edmund Rice Schools of Australia from 2002 to 2006, and was a member of the Christian Brothers’ National Planning Committee for Schools Governance since 2004. Bob has a deep commitment and experience in the development and delivery of formation and renewal programs in schools. His qualifications include Bachelor of Education, Master of School Management and Certificate in Pastoral & Spiritual Leadership.

Peter Leuenberger, Director of Education Services:

Peter has recently been Assistant Director of Schools in the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle. He has also been a secondary school Principal, consultant and Regional Administrator. As a dedicated and highly regarded educational leader, Peter brings commitment to organisational development and understanding of local objectives. His qualifications include Grad. Dip. Education, B.A., M.A. (Sydney) and Diploma of Educational Management.

Geoffrey Doyle, Director of Corporate Services

Geoff has recently been General Manager Corporate Management & Development, Trustees of the Christian Brothers (Queensland). He has had experience in a number of accounting firms in a professional journey that has led to his present position, and this provided the opportunity to gain extensive knowledge in management within the Catholic education sector. His experience as a financial manager/accountant in management positions in the Province has lead to more responsibilities within the Congregation and associated entities. His qualifications include Bachelor Business Studies (Accounting).
