Edwina Gateley Retreats 2017

This year the Sophia Circle is delighted to host Edwina Gateley in Melbourne in July/August while she facilitates two retreat programs:

  • Call to Global and Personal Transformation (28-30 July)
  • Soul Sisters: Women called to connect, bond and heal in the broken world. (4-10 August)

Edwina is a poet, theologian, artist, writer, and lay minister. She is a single mother and has been called ‘a modern day mystic and prophet’.

Her life has been described by Publisher’s Weekly as “fascinating – an exceptional blend of contemplation and action”.

Edwina’s journey has led her to teaching in Africa, founding the Volunteer Missionary Movement (VMM), sojourning in the Sahara Desert, spending nine months of prayer in a trailer in the woods, befriending and ministering to street people and women in prostitution – “God’s little ones” –  and preaching the Good News: God Is With Us.

Sr Helen Prejean, whose life and work has been made known through her book and the film Dead Man Walking, writes:

“When this woman, Edwina, says:  ‘from the time I was a child I’ve had this thing about God,’ you believe her. And when she tells you she goes to the bloody Sahara desert alone to listen to God, you believe her – and then hears God tell her to work with prostitutes and become their sister, you not only believe her, but find yourself asking God – ‘What?  What?  What are you calling me to do?’  Edwina Gateley changes your life.  I’d go anywhere to be with her.”

Edwina’s Melbourne retreats are supported by EREA and Edmund Rice Centre Amberley.
