No One Left Behind - Gen X Unleashed

Our Education / St James Brisbane
A performance competition in Brisbane offered St James students a platform to speak with passion about their lives and challenges.

Saturday evening, May 25, saw students from St James College perform in the Gen X Unleashed Fusion Arts Competition.

It was a real privilege to be at Hillsong Church Auditorium, Mt Gravatt.

Our students performed so well that they came first overall, and won the Speaking and Music Award. You can imagine how excited they were, bringing home a massive trophy, award certificates, and a cheque for $2000!

The theme was Passion and they showed their passion in citing some of the prejudicial barriers to challenge them, but also showing their passion to express and assert themselves!

They emulated all the elements of our Touchstones!  And because they won they then performed their piece again - they really received great ovation!  The other schools and groups were from Inala, Redbank, West Side, Ipswich, Bayside State College all of whom performed thoughtful, dynamic pieces involving the spoken word, music, dance, media, costuming.

The scores were very close! Ms Lisa Kubunameca showed her natural talents as a mover and shaker MC, and also in her leadership of the students along with many other staff including Ms Heidi Chapman, Mr Josateki Tora, from St James College and Gen X leaders.  Some other great performers also entertained us!

We thank our staff, Gen X and Icon organisers, sponsors, our parents and families, for all their work in making this special event and program happen.  We were then able to showcase the event for the whole College, with Icon organisers coming along and other special guests.
