As was raised in the Teams meetings at the beginning of the year, while we have a Justice and Peace Framework, we rarely go as far as explicitly teaching and using the language of peace building and nonviolence.
Thanks to the work done by Pac e Bene and Anglican Schools in WA, the curriculum unit has provided a number of schools with some materials to trial, incorporate or beginning discussing. This year, a number of teachers and RECs have taken up the challenge of considering how RE curriculum focused on the nonviolence/peace building example of Jesus could be incorporated into their school context. Each has taken a different route:
Aquinas College have shared their plan with their community through the newsletter. Click here and scroll down to read the Peace and Nonviolence article by John Van Dyke (Head of Senior School - Acting).
Richard Mavros, Adam Whitefield, Daniel Valencic and Martina Cooper have participated in a Curriculum training day and/or the Peace Education Gathering in Adelaide in June.
The Curriculum unit has also now been trailed with over 500 students in Anglican schools and the feedback from teachers and students is overwhelmingly positive.
