Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) was established by the Christian Brothers in 2007 to ensure the continuation of the charism of Edmund Rice in school ministry within the mission of the Catholic Church.
Serving over 40,000 families across 54 schools in all states and territories, EREA is the most substantial national education network within Catholic Education in Australia. With 37500 students and 3500 staff, EREA is faithful to a ‘Liberating Education’ for all; a ‘Gospel Spirituality’ within our range of communities; an ‘Inclusive Community’ which is accepting and welcoming; and a commitment to ‘Justice and Solidarity’ for all those vulnerable and marginalised within our ministry.
EREA’s Purpose and Charter is to conduct educational institutions, in fulfilment of the mission of Jesus Christ in the Catholic tradition. Holding the Church close to our heart, our submission to the Plenary Council reflects our conversation across the network of schools, flexible learning centres, staff, EREA Executive, Board and Council.
We welcome and appreciate the opportunity to prayerfully, respectfully and humbly contribute to the future direction of the Church within Australia and the world.
We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples of Australia as the traditional owners and custodians of the land of our schools. We are inspired and nurtured by their wisdom, spirituality and experience. We commit ourselves to actively
work alongside them for reconciliation and justice. We pay our respects to the Elders; past, present and future. As we take our next step we remember the first footsteps taken on this sacred land.
