Brisbane Catholic Education is a learning community of over 140 schools. We aim to provide quality teaching and learning outcomes for Prep to Year 12 students.

About the role

In this role you will provide expertise, advice and support, continuously improving religious education outcomes across BCE Catholic, ecumenical and Religious Institute Schools. This Principal Education Officer leads the Religious Education team, reporting to the Head of Learning and Teaching Services. To be successful in this role you must be a committed practising Catholic with a deep understanding of the purpose and mission of the Catholic Church and Catholic schools.


Provide expertise and counsel on the design, review, implementation and alignment of the P-12 Religious Education curriculum with the Archdiocesan syllabus and the Australian Curriculum Framework

Provide leadership, management and coordination of services, programs, initiatives and resources supporting the effective implementation of religious education for BCE Catholic and ecumenical schools

Partner with Catholic Identity and Senior Leaders – School Progress and Performance to support and empower principals to explore, engage with and embed a contemporary Catholic perspective within the life of the school

Contribute expertise and advice on integrated BCE learning and teaching strategy development and implementation to enable BCE’s strategic priorities, with an intentional focus on religious education


Degree qualification in Education, with master’s degree in Religious Education/Theology or similar

Current full registration with QCT

Current/valid Queensland Drivers’ Licence and eligibility to work in Australia for duration of appointment

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Expert knowledge and demonstrated effective application of religious education curriculum to Catholic and ecumenical schools operating within Archdiocesan requirements

Proven track record of success in embedding effective religious education and pastoral support practices within and across schools

Demonstrated capacity to initiate, develop, coordinate and evaluate planning, monitoring and reporting practices to inform student learning improvement

Proven ability to plan, implement, manage, monitor and evaluate educational programs, services and resources to student need

Ability to effectively lead and manage multi-disciplinary profession education teams with a school centric support focus

Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills with ability to build relationships across a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including within and across the Archdiocese, universities and churches

Outstanding written communication skills and the capacity to apply these to a wide range of reports, submissions and inward and outward facing planning documents
