In the lead up to National Reconciliation Week, flexi school communities celebrated the journey of reconciliation by hosting a number of events, including the commemoration of National Sorry Day.
Deception Bay Flexible School held their annual National Sorry Day Walk on Tuesday, whereby Young People were able to connect with the annual theme Walk the Talk. As has been tradition, the whole school community walked halfway across the Hornibrook Bridge; a symbol of the fact that the journey towards reconciliation continues to be an aspirational destination, and that we still have more to do to heal as a nation.
Inala Flexible School also hosted their National Sorry Day March on Friday. This was a significant event that brought together staff and flexi school students from across the region to reflect on the stories and experiences of the Stolen Generations. We encourage you to watch the above video to witness first-hand the power of the march and community involvement. Thank you to staff from the Sharing Stories Foundation for capturing and sharing this footage.
